THE BEST BOOK I READ ALL YEAR

I read a lot this year! Several yoga books for the coursework I completed, and then the pleasure reading of the TBR-Lite Challenge and the A-to-Z Author Challenge.

But the best book I read all year wasn't drawn from either of those piles. Rather, it was a book that I picked up on impulse at the bookshop in Friday Harbor. We'd gone to the San Juans for Labor Day weekend, and the kids and I were taking the ferry back. While waiting for the ferry, we'd done a little shopping, and I'd gone into Harbor Books expecting to buy a particular novel ... which they did not, it turned out, have in stock. I sat down to wait while the rest of my family browsed, and there on the table in front of me was this book:

I picked it up and read a few pages, and thought, Well, the mood of this sort of fits in with my yoga studies. So I bought it. And once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down.

The author, Sarah Susanka, is an architect. Her view about architecture is that our homes should be places that inspire us. She is also a spiritual person who recommends meditating every day, to keep one's self in touch with that inspiration. The Not So Big Life is about setting meaningful priorities so that your to-do list doesn't end up running your life.

I highly recommend this book! And if you want more info, here is a link to Sarah Susanka's website.

Thanks for the tip, Karen! I like Sarah's other books so I'll have to check this out.

Thanks for the suggestion, Karen. Will put this book on my list for Santa. To-do lists have been running my life for years and I'd love a break from them....
